Let it snow

Just a few photos of the snow in our garden

This was the scene on 26th November

The day we went away for the weekend!

It got deeper and deeper since these photos were taken

I shovelled all the paths

Stopped to admire the trees while I caught my breath

Cleared the snow around the chooks Peckingham Palace

My willow arch with a crew cut looks like a work of art!

As it was the first day of snow - silly me brushed the snow off the chooks 'poly tunnel'

For the past two weeks, I have given up  even trying, and the banties do not mind a bit!

The bantams can fly quite high - so they just flew out of their run onto wherever they wanted to be.
On a flower bed or from one end of the garden to the other to get to the gravel under the hedges.  It has really been an eye opener to see them fly around like pigeons!
In fact they have got so used to flying they just do it all the now!
And guess what - Dolly, the dottie Silkie has started laying an egg every day!
I won't tell her that she's supposed to do that in the summer!

  3. Hi Lottie
Brrrr! That snow looks very cold! We are only now having the first of our summer heat.

I am getting a early start with my New Year wishes.
I hope 2011 will be a productive year in both your garden and your life.
I trust the weather will behave itself for you and not present too many (more) extremes!!

    Best wishes from Australia.

Hello, just found your blog and am admiring your lovely birds and garden. How do you stop your bantams from flying over your garden boundaries? I keep quail but would love to get some hens to potter around the garden only even with wings clipped I don't trust them not to fly over my 4/5 feet urban walls!
Oh, and I thought all silkies started laying in winter and stopped in summer? Seems a funny arrangement, doesn't it!

  6. I would love to have just one snowy winter - it looks so beautiful!! Mushy and wet I know, but in the north of NZ where we live it never snows.
What clever chooks you have, before you mentioned the gravel beneath the hegdes I was wondering where you put them!!!
    Happy New Year too!
